With 2014 about to begin, it’s time for homeowners in Connecticut to start making some resolutions about their house. Every year people vow to make changes that will improve their home and every year these projects go unfinished leaving people’s homes at risk for damage from rain, snow, wind and debris. At Connecticut Gutter & Exteriors we want you to have the safest home possible so we’ve put together some home improvement resolutions you should strive for in the New Year:
Improve your Gutters – Whether it’s installing new rain gutters, repairing damaged gutters or adding leafless gutter guard systems, make 2014 the year you get your gutters right. Faulty gutters can lead to a number of problems including leaks, clogs, water damage and ice dams and the longer you put off gutter projects the more problems can occur. If it’s been awhile since you made any changes to your gutter this may be the time to invest in brand new gutters that will fortify your home.
Clean your Gutters – We recommend a thorough and professional gutter cleaning at least twice a year (in the late fall and late spring) and this is the year to make it a part of your home maintenance routine. Not cleaning your gutters will lead to leaves and other debris gathering in the channels and downspouts and this will cause clogs that will block water from draining properly. This will cause water to start backing up under the roof shingles and then you’ll start to have water leaking through the ceiling. Avoid this problem by scheduling gutter cleaning this year.
Upgrade your Home Siding – Every year homeowners are shocked by the rising cost of heat and air conditioning. Energy costs aren’t going down anytime soon so in order to be more cost effective and energy efficient it is strongly recommended that you upgrade the siding of your home, preferably to affordable vinyl siding. Available in many decorative styles and colors, vinyl siding is very popular and can help insulate your home to lower energy costs.
