At Connecticut Gutter & Exteriors we offer unparalleled gutter cleaning services throughout Connecticut and New York for residential and commercial buildings. However, we understand that not every homeowner or building manager has the budget to afford professional gutter cleaning so we want to provide those DIY’ers with a few helpful tips that will make cleaning your gutters safe and easy.
It is strongly recommended that you contract with a professional gutter cleaner to do bi-annual gutter cleanings that will keep your system in great condition. Yet there will be times when your gutters just need a quick tidying up and in that case you can get out the ladder and venture up to the roof to rid your gutter of dead leaves, pine needles and other outdoor debris.
Before you start on a gutter cleaning project make sure you have a sturdy ladder, durable work gloves, a dust mask and safety glasses. Always have someone nearby who knows you will be working on the roof and can call for help should an accident occur. Test your ladder first and for added safety consider using a ladder stabilizer that will help prevent dents in your gutter from the pressure of the ladder.
Use a garden trowel to scoop out the gutter channel and have a heavy duty trash bag to toss the debris into. Throwing gutter gunk on the ground can create quite a mess so always have dependable storage bags and cans for dumping the debris. When you have finished removing all the debris, use a garden hose with a high-pressure nozzle to rinse the gutter channel clean. Direct the spray towards the downspout so any remaining debris can be flushed away.
